REVIEW – Musicians need gadgets too! Regardless of the instrument, there is always niche gear, tips, and ways that musicians have come up with to improve their music in one way or another. Design and features
First of all, the case that the Mighty Bright Orchestra Light comes in is fantastic. It’s slim, doesn’t take up a ton of space, and looks professional. Opening it up, everything stores away and is held snug in place so that it won’t move around and get damaged. The light itself has 9 LEDs that face downwards and provides a spread of light to illuminate a music stand. There’s a fin on the back of the light as well to help direct things downward and away from an audience. The clip is large and padded to prevent crushing or marring any music or the paint on a stand.
Setup
There are two power options on this light. One is via 3 AAA batteries (included in pkg), which is going to give you greatest amount of portability. The second option is via an included AC adapter which has an extremely long cable, which is a great benefit, especially if you’re using the light in a fixed position and aren’t moving it around much. One of my least favorite things to do is hunt for batteries, especially because they always die when it’s the least convenient thing to do.
Performance
The coverage of this light is just right to cover a music stand. While illuminating the music, there isn’t a ton of light spillage, which is very nice if you’re playing in the pit or in a situation where it needs to be dark.
The clip on this light is also going to help keep your music down, which is incredibly helpful if you’re playing outside and there’s any hint of wind.
Another angle. There are two power levels as well if you need to dial down the brightness, which is nice in really dark environments. The arm is also very flexible and you can bend and adjust it to fit the need and it holds tight in that configuration.
What I like about the Mighty Bright Orchestra Light
- Coverage and brightness levels are perfect for a music stand
- Carry case is convenient and made well
- AC adapter cable is very long
What needs to be improved?
- A rechargeable battery option? Not much needs to be changed here. Having batteries that you can change out may be a better option so you don’t have to figure out charging in the middle of a performance.
Final thoughts
The Mighty Bright is a great music stand light. This is going to get a lot of use at my house over the years and different performances. It does what it’s designed for and it seems to do it very well. It’s not cheap, but it’s well made and should last a long time. I definitely recommend it.
